Climate Indices and Their Impact on Maize Yield in Veracruz, Mexico

The State of Veracruz (Mexico) is highly vulnerable to climate change. Therefore, it necessary identify and analyze local extreme trends explore potential relationships between indices maize. objectives this research were (1) describe recent (1979–2018) (2) compare these with maize yields produced in Veracruz, Mexico, under rainfed conditions. methodology calculated analyzed the sector-specific (Rx5day, PRCPTOT, SPI6, R20mm, TXx, TNn, TXgt50p, TXge35) 18 observation sites using Climpact. Climate over spring-summer agricultural cycle correlated yields. Results show increasing for Rx5day, TXge35 65%, 56%, 89%, 67% sites, respectively, whereas decreasing PRCPTOT R20mm detected 59% 47% sites. Significant correlations (p < 0.05) yield found eight municipalities, which 62% positive.
